This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1989 for the first release of My Neighbor Totoro.
In this size this poster is very hard to come by and is in super high demand. It is the second time we have had this poster in our gallery. It is the first time that we have seen this poster in Japan for 3 years even though it is our full time job to do so - this is how rare it is!
There are many reprints of this poster flooding the market and for sale right now as Ghibli has been producing these for the past two years. Many of these are for sale as originals online. This however, is 1000% an original, therefore it does have some signs of its age, but this is to be expected. This is undisputedly the most in demand Japanese movie poster - it is loved by collectors, one-off buyers and many other customers.
Japanese B1 (71 x 103 cm) very large size.
This poster is in an overall excellent condition, it has never been folded and has no pinholes. There is some slight edge wear and a tiny bit of tape on the top right and left hand corners as it has been stored for over 36 years in a warehouse, please see additional imagery provided. Once framed with a mount this will not be noticeable. The main part of the poster is in spectacular condition with bright colors as the poster was stored rolled for many years and not exposed to sunlight.
Hayao Miyazaki, one of the founders of Studio Ghibli, wrote and directed this film. Studio Ghibli, which was founded in 1985, has been responsible for making so many magical animations. So popular and loved is Totoro that the studio use as their mascot/logo. There were a few different posters produced in Japan for the release of this film, and this is the most sought after.
