This is an original Japanese B2 promotional poster printed in 1992 for the home-video release of David Cronenberg’s Naked Lunch. Issued by Asmik, it advertises the availability of both subtitled and Japanese-dubbed rental editions from 6 November, with miniature images of the video packaging at the lower left.

Film background
Released in 1991, Naked Lunch brings together David Cronenberg’s unsettling cinematic imagination and the experimental writing of William S. Burroughs. Starring Peter Weller, alongside Judy Davis, Ian Holm, Julian Sands, and Roy Scheider, the film follows exterminator and aspiring writer Bill Lee into the mysterious Interzone, where espionage, hallucination, and monstrous transformations become inseparable.

Drawing on Burroughs’s novel and episodes from his life, Cronenberg creates a darkly humorous exploration of addiction, identity, and the act of writing.

Poster design
An extraordinary surreal composition shows a suited figure wearing a fedora, with an antique typewriter replacing his face. Raised hands frame the machine, turning the writer and his instrument into a single unsettling image that perfectly suits the film’s themes.

Warm amber highlights contrast with the black suit and pale green background, while the enormous Japanese title 「裸のランチ」 spreads across the lower half in heavy black characters surrounded by a white glow. The upper-right tagline, 「信じられない映像体験。」, promises “An unbelievable visual experience.”
