“Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind” (風の谷のナウシカ), Original Japanese Promotional Poster 1987, MOVIC/Tokuma Shoten Issue, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O160

This is an original Japanese B2 promotional poster printed in 1987 for Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (風の谷のナウシカ). Issued in Japan by MOVIC in partnership with Nibariki / Tokuma Shoten / Hakuhodo (credit line along the footer; code “500 0887”), this licensed country sheet was sold and displayed in Japan several years after the film’s 1984 release. Mid-’80s MOVIC Nausicaä pieces are scarce and highly collectible.

Film background
Hayao Miyazaki’s seminal eco-epic follows Princess Nausicaä as she navigates warring kingdoms and the toxic Sea of Decay, seeking harmony between humans and nature. A landmark of Japanese animation that paved the way for Studio Ghibli, it remains a touchstone for its world-building, empathy, and environmental vision.

Poster design
A beautiful watercolor/pen composition from Miyazaki’s world: Nausicaä treks into the wind with a baby snug in a sling, Teto perched on her gear, a rifle and sword strapped across her pack. Warm sand tones and soft washes give the sheet an illustrated, sketchbook intimacy; the minimalist English masthead “NAUSICAÄ IN THE VALLEY OF WIND” sits at upper left, while the small MOVIC/Tokuma/Hakuhodo/Nibariki copyright appears along the base—classic hallmarks of an authentic licensed Japanese issue with gentle, lyrical wall presence.
