“Ned Kelly” (太陽の果てに青春を), Original Japanese B2 Movie Poster 1970, B2 Size (c. 51 × 73 cm) ZA226

Sale price $185.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the early‑1970s Japanese release of Ned Kelly, the 1970 British‑Australian biographical western directed by Tony Richardson and starring Mick Jagger as the legendary Australian bushranger.

Film background
Ned Kelly recounts the life of the infamous 19th‑century outlaw, from his clashes with colonial police through to the formation of the Kelly Gang and their final stand in homemade armour at Glenrowan. The casting of Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger sparked considerable attention and controversy at the time, and the film remains an intriguing blend of counter‑culture iconography and historical folk legend.

Poster design
The Japanese B2 features a striking collage. A wanted‑poster style backdrop blares “MURDER” and “REWARD” in distressed red lettering, while down the centre runs a split portrait: on one side a metal‑masked outlaw, on the other Jagger’s face, merging mythic bandit and pop star. Below, images of train raids, horseback chases and fleeing lovers evoke frontier adventure. The Japanese title “太陽の果てに青春を” (“Youth at the Ends of the Sun”) is rendered in jagged turquoise brushstrokes at the bottom, with a small credit block highlighting Jagger and the Kelly brothers.

Rarity and condition
Japanese posters for western and historical imports of this period were often displayed in busy urban theatres, and many were discarded after use. The combination of rock‑icon star power and bold design makes this piece especially desirable.
