“Neon Genesis Evangelion” (新世紀エヴァンゲリオン), Original Japanese SEGA Character Poster c. 1996–1997 — Asuka Langley Soryu, Yellow Dress Design — Illustrated by Shunji Suzuki, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) C21A

Sale price $125.00

This is an original Japanese B2 SEGA character poster dating to approximately 1996–1997, featuring Asuka Langley Soryu in her yellow dress, with artwork by Shunji Suzuki / 鈴木俊二.

The illustration credit is explicitly printed beneath the SEGA logo:

「原画 鈴木俊二」

“Original illustration: Shunji Suzuki.”

Combining a warmly coloured character portrait with softly blurred European-style architecture, this design presents a relaxed, approachable side of one of Evangelion’s most recognisable characters.

Film / series background

Created by Hideaki Anno, Neon Genesis Evangelion combines science-fiction spectacle with an intimate exploration of its characters’ emotions and relationships.

Asuka Langley Soryu, the pilot of Evangelion Unit-02, is central to that story. Her confidence, competitive spirit and underlying vulnerability make her one of the original series’ most memorable personalities.

This poster places the emphasis on Asuka herself, presenting her away from the machinery and battles associated with her role as an Eva pilot. Her yellow dress, long auburn hair and red interface clips preserve the familiar visual identity of the original television-series character.

Poster design

Asuka occupies almost the entire composition, leaning forward with her cheek resting lightly against one hand. Her direct gaze and small smile give the portrait an informal, conversational quality.

She wears a pale yellow dress with bows at the shoulders, accompanied by a light blue choker. The broad folds of the skirt fill the lower section, balancing the flowing lines of her hair.

Behind her, half-timbered buildings, warm-toned walls and green foliage form a softly blurred backdrop. The contrast between the sharply defined character illustration and the indistinct setting gives Asuka strong visual prominence.

Across the top, large white serif lettering announces:

“NEON GENESIS EVANGELION”

The title stretches almost the full width of the sheet, standing out against the blue sky and darker background.

At lower left, the blue SEGA logo appears above the GAINAX / Project Eva, TV Tokyo and NAS copyright line, followed by Suzuki’s illustration credit.

The restrained typography and absence of release announcements allow the portrait to remain the focus, giving the sheet the appeal of a dedicated character print.

Collecting significance

This poster brings together Asuka’s familiar yellow-dress appearance, Shunji Suzuki’s credited artwork and SEGA’s Evangelion character merchandise from the franchise’s formative years.

Its warm palette and clear composition make it particularly appealing to collectors of Asuka Langley Soryu, Neon Genesis Evangelion, SEGA memorabilia and Japanese anime illustration.
