“Neon Genesis Evangelion / Tōji Suzuhara” (新世紀エヴァンゲリオン/鈴原トウジ), Original Japanese SEGA Character Poster c.1996–1997, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) T217

Sale price $118.00

This is an original Japanese B2 character poster featuring Tōji Suzuhara from Neon Genesis Evangelion, issued by SEGA during the series’ original merchandising boom, approximately 1996–1997. The artwork is explicitly credited to Takeshi Honda, with the printed text identifying its original appearance in King Records’ Genesis 0:9 video and LaserDisc release.

Part of SEGA’s Evangelion character-poster series, this piece celebrates the television anime and its cast.

Series background
Directed by Hideaki Anno, Neon Genesis Evangelion combines giant-robot action with an increasingly complex exploration of identity, isolation and human relationships. Tōji Suzuhara, Shinji Ikari’s outspoken classmate and eventual friend, provides an important connection to everyday school life before becoming directly involved in the Evangelion programme.

Poster design
Honda’s illustration presents Tōji standing with his arms folded, wearing a slight, confident smile. His familiar dark tracksuit features broad white shoulder panels edged in muted red, a purple collar and white stripes down the trousers.

The large figure stands against a restrained pale grey and lilac background, allowing his expression, crossed arms and strongly outlined silhouette to dominate the composition.

Across the top, a black band carries “NEON GENESIS” and “Tōji Suzuhara” in white serif lettering. Immediately below, the enormous black “EVANGELION” title stretches across almost the entire width. A bright blue SEGA logo anchors the lower-right corner, above the illustration credit and original rights information.

The uncluttered layout makes this an appealing companion to the other character portraits in SEGA’s original Evangelion poster series.

Condition
Very Good / Excellent. There are handling creases and edge wear, with localised surface rubbing and small areas of colour loss, particularly at the upper-left corner and along the lower edge. The central portrait remains clear and colourful, and the poster will display very well once framed.
