This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1973 for the first Japanese release of O Lucky Man! (オー!ラッキーマン), directed by Lindsay Anderson and starring Malcolm McDowell—a sprawling, satirical “state-of-the-nation” odyssey through modern society.
Film background
Released in 1973, O Lucky Man! follows an ambitious young salesman (McDowell) as he ricochets through class, power, industry, and ideology—rising, falling, and reshaping himself in an endlessly shifting Britain. It’s the second film in Anderson and McDowell’s “Mick Travis” trilogy (following If…), and is celebrated for its anarchic structure, biting social critique, and genre-hopping ambition.
Poster design
A high-impact, Japan-designed montage built around an hourglass-like composition: giant cropped faces flank the image, while the centre stacks scenes of seduction, authority, wealth, and chaos—perfectly echoing the film’s “life as a rigged system” satire. The bold brush-style Japanese title オー!ラッキーマン explodes across the lower half, while the fine-print “Celebrating Warner Bros. 50th Anniversary” line at the top anchors it firmly to the early-1970s Warner campaign era.
