“D-Day the Sixth of June” (あの日あのとき), Original Japanese Movie Poster 1956, Robert Taylor / Dana Wynter, B2 Format (c. 51 × 73 cm) — U19

Sale price $150.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for the 1956 Japanese release of D-Day the Sixth of June, released under the title あの日あのとき (Ano Hi Ano Toki), meaning “That Day, That Time.” Dating from Hollywood’s CinemaScope era, this single-sheet design combines intimate romantic imagery with the spectacle of the Normandy landings.

Directed by Henry Koster, the film stars Robert Taylor, Dana Wynter, and Richard Todd, supported by Edmond O’Brien and John Williams. Adapted from Lionel Shapiro’s novel The Sixth of June, the story follows an American captain and a British officer who love the same woman. Their memories of wartime romance unfold as they approach a dangerous mission ahead of the Allied invasion.

Printed on one B2 sheet, the design divides its imagery between romance and combat. A large portrait of Dana Wynter embracing Robert Taylor fills the upper section against a warm yellow background. The English title appears at the upper left, with “D-DAY” in red above the smaller black lettering of “THE SIXTH OF JUNE.” A blue CinemaScope panel and Japanese widescreen and colour credits emphasise the theatrical presentation.

The oversized red, white-outlined title 「あの日 あのとき」 stretches across a dark blue band through the centre. Below it, soldiers advance from the shoreline amid landing craft, shell splashes, and smoke rising from ships offshore. The 20th Century Fox logo appears at the lower left, completing a composition that brings the film’s personal drama and military setting together.

The promotional copy at the upper left begins:

「運命の日 六月六日」
“The day of destiny—June 6.”

The combination of romantic portraiture, battlefield imagery, and bold Japanese lettering gives this poster a distinctive period presence. It is an appealing example for collectors of Robert Taylor, Dana Wynter, classic war films, and Japanese Hollywood poster design of the 1950s.
