“One Full Moon” (ワン・フルムーン / Un Nos Ola Leuad), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1992 (film 1991), B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) N33

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster produced for the first Japanese cinema release of Endaf Emlyn’s Welsh-language drama Un Nos Ola Leuad, released internationally as One Full Moon / One Moonlit Night and in Japan as ワン・フルムーン. The film was produced in 1991 and first opened theatrically in Japan on 21 November 1992, distributed domestically by Cine Saison (シネセゾン). It was adapted from the celebrated 1961 Welsh novel by Caradog Prichard, with the screenplay written by Endaf Emlyn and Gwenlyn Parry.

Set in the slate-quarrying landscape of North Wales, the film follows an unnamed man returning to the village of his childhood after a long absence. His journey releases a succession of memories—of his widowed mother, religion, poverty, innocence, violence and psychological trauma—gradually blurring recollection, fantasy and nightmare. Directed by Endaf Emlyn, the film stars Dyfan Roberts, Tudor Roberts and Betsan Llwyd and is notable for being performed in the Welsh language.

Poster design
A haunting and exceptionally atmospheric Japanese first-release design dominated by an enormous crescent moon suspended above the dark mountains and waters of Wales. In the foreground, the young protagonist gazes upward into the night sky, while a surreal winged figure appears in the upper-left corner, reinforcing the film’s dreamlike mixture of childhood memory, religion, guilt and fantasy.

The huge yellow Japanese title ワン・フルムーン sits dramatically across the twilight sky, while the vertical tagline on the right reads:

「ぼくの罪は天国で消えるの？」

— “Will my sins disappear in heaven?”

The poster also highlights the film’s international festival recognition, including its 1992 Tokyo International Fantastic Film Festival participation, together with awards at international festivals in Turin, Tróia and Houston. The vivid orange roadshow circle at lower right announces the film’s exclusive engagement at Ginza Théâtre Seiyu, firmly identifying the sheet with its original Japanese theatrical campaign.

The combination of the Welsh mountain landscape, enormous moon, religious imagery and child’s portrait gives the poster an unusually poetic and almost mystical quality, making it a particularly beautiful example of early-1990s Japanese arthouse film advertising.

It is over 33 years old!

Condition
Excellent. The poster retains excellent colour saturation, with the deep midnight blues, luminous moon and warm foreground portrait remaining exceptionally strong.
