“One Piece: Clockwork Island Adventure” (ワンピース ねじまき島の冒険), Original First Release Japanese Movie Poster 2001, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA778
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 2001 for the first release of One Piece: Clockwork Island Adventure (ワンピース ねじまき島の冒険), the second theatrical feature based on Eiichiro Oda’s landmark manga and anime franchise One Piece. Issued for the 2001 Toei Anime Fair, this vibrant and highly appealing sheet captures the early Straw Hat crew at the moment the series was becoming one of the defining popular culture phenomena of modern Japan.
Bright, energetic, and unmistakably of its period, the design is a classic early-2000s Toei family adventure poster, full of movement, colour, and character-driven appeal.
Film background
Released in 2001, One Piece: Clockwork Island Adventure follows Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates after their beloved ship, the Going Merry, is stolen by the Trump Pirates. Their pursuit leads them to the fantastical Clockwork Island, a bizarre vertical island whose structure resembles a giant mechanical system. There they confront the pirate leader Bear King, whose scheme entangles both the crew and their ship.
Directed by Junji Shimizu and based on the manga by Eiichiro Oda, the film belongs to the formative early era of the franchise, when the original core crew was still being established in the public imagination. It was shown as part of the seasonal Toei Anime Fair, and this poster also advertises the accompanying short feature One Piece: Jango’s Dance Carnival in the lower-left starburst. The film’s theme song was “Believe” by Folder5, familiar to audiences as one of the iconic opening songs from the television anime.
Poster design
The design is a bold, action-led ensemble composition dominated by the early Straw Hat cast. At the centre, Luffy charges dynamically into the foreground, one sandal nearly breaking the picture plane, giving the sheet a strong sense of propulsion and immediacy. At left, Zoro is shown in a combative stance with sword drawn, while Usopp appears behind Luffy brandishing a large dust brush. At right, Sanji, dressed in a white suit with a red rose, carries Nami in a wedding dress — a direct visual nod to one of the film’s comic-adventure plot points.
Above them rises the film’s eccentric fantasy setting, including floating island forms, airborne vessels, and the looming figure of Bear King at the top centre, visually anchoring the threat faced by the crew. The standard One Piece skull-and-straw-hat logo appears prominently at upper right, with the subtitle “Clockwork Island Adventure” placed within a treasure-scroll motif.
A striking piece of copy runs vertically down the right side:
「あ、仲間も船も盗まれた!?」
“Ah, both our crewmates and our ship have been stolen!?”
The lower-left corner contains the double-feature promotion for Jango’s Dance Carnival, confirming the poster’s function within the 2001 Toei Anime Fair release campaign.
Overall, the sheet is visually rich yet cleanly organised, and especially desirable for showing the classic early Straw Hat lineup in one of the franchise’s best-known early theatrical poster images.
