“Persona” (仮面/ペルソナ), Original Japanese B2 Poster 1967 (Japan First Release), B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O626
This is an original Japanese B2 poster issued in Japan for Ingmar Bergman’s landmark psychological drama Persona (PERSONA, 1966), starring Bibi Andersson and Liv Ullmann (with Margaretha Krook and Gunnar Björnstrand). Widely regarded as one of Bergman’s defining works—and one of cinema’s most influential studies of identity, performance, and silence—Persona was first released theatrically in Japan on 21 October 1967.
Notably, this is a theatre-used example—ultra rare survivorship for a genuine first-release B2, and especially scarce with clear provenance of cinema handling.
Poster design
A striking, modernist Japanese design dominated by the intimate, two-profile composition—two women’s faces merging into a single psychological field—set against a restrained, smoky palette that mirrors the film’s unnerving emotional compression. The bold title typography across the top reads 「仮面ペルソナ」, while the headline copy sells Bergman’s reputation and the film’s intensity: 「鮮烈な映像美、緊迫のドラマで名匠ベルイマンが綴る禁断のテーマ!!」 (“Vivid visual beauty and tense drama—master Bergman weaves a forbidden theme!!”). At the base, the large “同時上映” box confirms this sheet was issued as a double-bill poster (with 10:30 P.M. Summer / 「夏の夜の10時30分」), a detail that makes the piece feel especially “of its time” as a living object from Japanese repertory programming.
Condition
Very Good overall. Theatre-used general age/handling wear, and light surface marks/creasing visible in the photos (including the reverse). Despite honest use, the poster retains strong display presence and exceptional period character. Please review the photos as they show the exact poster for sale.
