An original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for Walt Disney’s Peter Pan, issued for the 1963 Japanese revival. The film first opened in Japan on 9 March 1955 with Japanese subtitles. It returned to cinemas on 20 July 1963 with its first Japanese dub, billed on this sheet in a pink box as 「日本語版」 (“Japanese-language version”). The lower-left credit reads 「日本RKO映画 提供」 (“Presented by Japan RKO Pictures”). 作品情報・映画レビュー -KINENOTE(キネノート)

In Excellent condition, with Peter’s green tunic and the rose-pink title retaining strong colour against the deep blue of the night sky.

Film background

Walt Disney’s 1953 animated adaptation of J. M. Barrie’s story follows Wendy Darling and her brothers, John and Michael, as Peter leads them from their London nursery to Neverland. Bobby Driscoll voiced Peter in the original English soundtrack, with Kathryn Beaumont as Wendy and Hans Conried as Captain Hook. For the 1963 Japanese revival, the film shared a programme with Almost Angels, Disney’s live-action story of the Vienna Boys’ Choir.

Poster design

Peter stands hands on hips at the left, with Tinker Bell seated on his shoulder. Above them, a much smaller Peter leads the Darling children across the starry sky along a trail of pixie dust. The large pink Japanese title runs down the centre, with a white-outlined star worked into the lettering. Around it, the mermaids sit on lagoon rocks, the crocodile surfaces with its jaws open, and Captain Hook faces Peter on the yardarm of the Jolly Roger.

Beside the title, green and blue lettering describes the production.

「色彩長篇漫画映画 ウォルト・ディズニー作品」
“A feature-length animated film in colour. A Walt Disney production.”

Condition

Excellent overall. The sheet retains minor but visible fold lines and light handling creases. The reverse shows age toning and scattered brown spotting, most noticeably along the lower horizontal fold. Please review the front and reverse photographs for the full condition.
