Franchise background
By 1999, Pokémon had grown from its original Game Boy adventures into an international phenomenon spanning television, cinema and licensed merchandise. Mewtwo, one of the original generation’s most powerful and mysterious Pokémon, became a particularly memorable presence in the franchise’s early years. This design places the character at the centre of an energetic battle scene featuring several of the series’ best-loved Pokémon.
Poster design
A striking landscape composition set against rugged, reddish rock walls. Mewtwo dominates the left side, extending one arm through sweeping arcs of pale blue energy. Opposite, Charizard rears back with wings spread and mouth open, while Pikachu occupies the centre amid jagged flashes of yellow electricity.
Squirtle and Bulbasaur fill the foreground, their startled expressions adding urgency to the confrontation. The contrast between the warm orange rocks, Charizard’s bright colouring and the cool blue energy effects gives the artwork exceptional visual impact. Branding is confined to the corners, allowing the battle scene to stretch almost uninterrupted across the sheet.
