“Pocket Monsters / Pokémon” (ポケットモンスター), Original Japanese Promotional Poster 1997, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) P212
This is an original, officially licensed Japanese B2 promotional poster produced in 1997 for Pocket Monsters (ポケットモンスター / Pokémon). This is not a movie poster—it is a commercial promotion display poster, marked 非売品 (not for sale), created for public-facing promotion rather than retail sale. The sheet carries BANPRESTO branding and the original licensing line for Nintendo / Creatures / GAME FREAK / TV Tokyo / ShoPro / JR Kikaku, confirming it as period, fully licensed franchise ephemera.
Franchise background
By 1997, Pokémon had exploded in Japan—from the original Game Boy phenomenon into TV, merchandising, and nationwide promotional campaigns. Posters like this were made for short-term display, not collecting, which is exactly why clean survivors are increasingly difficult to find today.
Poster design
A bold, collectible “legend vs legend” composition featuring Mewtwo and Mew—the franchise’s most iconic psychic pair—set against a radiant orange field and a gridded “world” sphere. The graphic ECG/heartbeat line cutting across the image gives it that unmistakable late-’90s techno-pop energy, while the “NO.1” and BANPRESTO markings root it firmly in the era’s promotional culture.
