“Pokémon – Charizard & Friends” (ポケットモンスター), Original Japanese Banpresto Poster 1998, Landscape B2 Size (73 × 51 cm) — ZA1210

An original 1998 Japanese B2 Pokémon poster produced by Banpresto for its Banpre Chara Poster collectible prize series. Marked No. 2 and 非売品 (“not for sale”), this landscape design brings together a large ensemble of Pokémon in a colourful aerial scene.

The artwork captures the appeal of the franchise’s early anime era, combining familiar Kanto Pokémon with Togepi. Its emphasis on character illustration and playful interaction makes it a particularly attractive example of Japanese Pokémon merchandise from the late 1990s.

Charizard dominates the centre with outstretched wings, carrying Pikachu behind its neck and Togepi perched above its head. Squirtle clings beside its body, while Bulbasaur hangs below by its vines. Psyduck, positioned near Charizard’s tail, adds a comic touch to the airborne gathering.

The legendary birds Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres surround the central group, alongside Dragonite, Aerodactyl, Scyther, Butterfree, and Farfetch’d. Smaller figures extend across the sky, with Mew near the left edge and Mewtwo hovering at the upper right.

A glowing sunset provides the backdrop, combining orange and gold clouds with a muted violet sky. Below the Pokémon, reflected light shimmers across the sea around rocky islands. The warm background contrasts beautifully with Charizard’s blue wing membranes and the varied colours of the surrounding characters.

The green Japanese Pocket Monsters logo occupies the upper left. Discreet Banpresto branding, series numbering, and manufacturing information appear at the lower left, leaving almost the entire sheet devoted to the illustration.
