This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1988 for the Japanese release of Police Story 2, starring and directed by Jackie Chan. Released in Japan under the title 「九龍の眼」 / Kūron no Me — “The Eye of Kowloon” — the film is the explosive sequel to Chan’s landmark Hong Kong action hit Police Story.
A superb late-1980s Jackie Chan poster, this design captures the star at the height of his Japanese popularity, with bold colour, dynamic illustration, and the unmistakable energy of Hong Kong action cinema.
Film background
Released in 1988, Police Story 2 continues the story of Hong Kong detective Chan Ka-kui, known internationally as Kevin Chan. After the chaos and destruction caused during the events of the first film, Ka-kui is demoted, only to be pulled back into serious danger when a violent gang of extortionists begins threatening the city with bomb attacks.
Directed by Jackie Chan, with screenplay by Edward Tang, the film stars Jackie Chan, Maggie Cheung, Bill Tung, and Lam Kwok-Hung. Like the first film, it is celebrated for its extraordinary practical stunt work, intricate fight choreography, and Chan’s unique blend of martial arts, comedy, and high-risk physical performance.
Poster design
The Japanese poster is bright, energetic, and instantly eye-catching. At the centre is a vivid hand-drawn illustration of Jackie Chan in a white shirt, smiling with raised fists in a classic fighting pose. Behind him, the yellow and orange background bursts outward with explosive sunbeam graphics, giving the design a strong sense of movement and impact.
The upper text promotes the film as a major Jackie Chan event, highlighting his dual role as director and star. The English line “POLICE STORY 2 JACKIE’S FILM” reinforces the film as a personal Jackie Chan action vehicle.
The lower third is dominated by the huge red Japanese title:
「九龍の眼」
“The Eye of Kowloon”
Beneath it appears the original sequel title reference:
「警察故事續集」
“Police Story Sequel”
The overall design is bold, colourful, and highly commercial, perfectly reflecting the action-comedy spectacle of Jackie Chan’s late-1980s cinema.
