This is an original Japanese poster printed in 2008 for the first theatrical release of Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea (Japanese title: 崖の上のポニョ).

Ponyo is Hayao Miyazaki’s 2008 hand‑drawn fantasy, produced by Studio Ghibli and released by Toho. Loosely inspired by The Little Mermaid, the film follows a goldfish princess who escapes to the human world and befriends a five‑year‑old boy, Sōsuke. Celebrated for its lush, pastel‑toned animation and themes of environmental harmony, Ponyo was a critical and box‑office success, reaffirming Miyazaki’s global appeal.

Rendered in Miyazaki’s crayon‑like palette, the composition shows Sōsuke’s legs and hands cradling a green plastic pail; inside, Ponyo peers up with wide eyes and pink dress billowing. The playful multicoloured title sits boldly across the top, while the Studio Ghibli logo appears in the upper‑left corner.
