“Queen Millennia”, Original Japanese Release Movie Poster 1982, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA119

Sale price $110.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1982 for the theatrical release of Queen Millennia (新竹取物語 1000年女王), the anime feature based on Leiji Matsumoto’s manga and released in Japan on 13 March 1982. The film was directed by Masayuki Akehi and features key voice performances by Keiko Han, Keiko Toda, Ichirō Nagai, Mami Koyama, and Yōko Asagami.

Film background
Originally serialised from 1980, Queen Millennia became part of Matsumoto’s wider science-fiction universe and was adapted into both a television series and this theatrical feature. The story centres on Yayoi Yukino / the Millennial Queen, who has lived secretly on Earth for centuries, and on the boy Hajime Amamori, as they confront the threat posed by the planet La-Metal and its plans for humanity. The film was scripted by Keisuke Fujikawa and is remembered as one of the major Matsumoto-related anime projects of the early 1980s.

Poster design
This is a beautiful and highly displayable Japanese design. The composition is dominated by a huge profile image of Queen Millennia / Yayoi Yukino, her long golden hair flowing across a star-filled cosmic background and her red headpiece catching the light like a jewel. Below, a smaller full-body figure of the Queen in white appears beside the young Hajime Amamori, giving the sheet both scale and narrative charm. The design is elegant, minimal, and unmistakably rooted in Leiji Matsumoto’s late-70s / early-80s visual world, with a strong emotional and decorative appeal that makes it especially attractive framed. The English subtitle “Star-Spirited Dollie” is not present here; instead this poster presents the film in its pure Queen Millennia form, with a refined cosmic layout that feels closer to an art print than a conventional anime advertisement.
