This is an original Japanese STB tatekan theatrical poster for the 1971 Japanese release of Ramon the Mexican, originally titled Ramon il messicano. This complete two-sheet example combines imposing photographic imagery, vivid red typography, and scenes of frontier violence in a striking vertical composition.
Directed by Maurizio Pradeaux, the 1966 Italian Western stars Robert Hundar, Jean Louis, and Wilma Lindamar. The story follows Slim Baxter, whose killing of a man while defending Esmeralda triggers a violent family feud. Hundar plays Ramon Morales, the ruthless antagonist whose gang murders Slim’s father and abducts Esmeralda, setting the stage for revenge.
Printed on two sheets arranged vertically, the design makes dramatic use of the tall tatekan format. An enormous monochrome portrait of a gunman beneath a broad black hat extends across the composition, culminating in a revolver pointed directly towards the viewer. Above him, a red-tinted frontier street scene shows mounted gunmen, fallen figures, and buildings framed by the dark silhouette of a wagon wheel.
Smaller scenes of confrontation and a man restraining a woman introduce further tension around the central portrait. The oversized red title 「荒野の復讐鬼」 dominates the lower-left section in rough brush lettering, while a long blue slogan runs down the right edge across both sheets. The Italian title “RAMON il MESSICANO” appears near the bottom, alongside the Japanese credits and DN distribution mark.
The prominent blue tagline reads:
「撃ちまくる！殺しまくる！地獄の底からやって来た、残酷無比の殺し屋ガンマン！」
“Shooting relentlessly! Killing relentlessly! A merciless gunman from the depths of hell!”
The combination of looming portraiture, confrontational gun imagery, and vivid lettering gives this poster a powerful presence. It is an especially appealing example for collectors of Spaghetti Westerns, Robert Hundar, Maurizio Pradeaux, and Japanese theatrical poster design.
