"Rear Window", Original Japanese Movie Poster 1984 Re-Release, B2 Size (51 x 73cm) ZA443
This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1983 for “The Hitchcock Festival – Rear Window,” part of CIC/Universal’s revival season that returned Alfred Hitchcock’s classics to Japanese cinemas 29 years after their initial release.
The design pairs Hitchcock’s voyeuristic lens with bold festival branding:
-
A full-colour still of James Stewart photographing across the courtyard while Grace Kelly watches tensely behind him.
-
Stylised blue festival masthead “THE HITCHCOCK FESTIVAL” and a crimson headline proclaiming, “Shattering 29 years of silence—Hitchcock’s ultimate thriller returns!”
-
A silhouetted profile of Hitchcock beneath oversized red kanji for “Rear Window” (裏窓), anchoring the lower tier.
The 1983 re-issues followed the unblocking of five long-withdrawn Hitchcock masterpieces (Rear Window, Vertigo, Rope, The Man Who Knew Too Much, The Trouble with Harry), igniting a new wave of appreciation among Japanese cinephiles.
It is over 41 years old!
This poster is in excellent condition. Please refer to the imagery (front and back) as this is the exact poster that is for sale.
