“Jean-Paul Belmondo Masterpiece Selection 3” (ジャン=ポール・ベルモンド傑作選3), Original Japanese Retrospective Movie Poster 2022, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) — T102

Sale price $120.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster produced for the 2022 retrospective “Jean-Paul Belmondo Masterpiece Selection 3.” Opening on 2 September 2022 at Tokyo’s Shinjuku Musashinokan and other Japanese cinemas, the programme celebrated Belmondo’s career around the first anniversary of his death.

The seven-film selection brought together different aspects of his screen personality, from crime drama and comedy to spectacular action. Highlights included The Burglars (1971), La Scoumoune (1972), A Monkey in Winter (1962) and Stavisky… (1974). Presented by King Records and distributed by Eden, the retrospective offered Japanese audiences another opportunity to experience his performances on the cinema screen.

The design places Belmondo’s personality at its centre through an enormous colour portrait: tousled hair, a relaxed smile and a cigar held between his teeth. Wearing a shearling-collared jacket over a pale roll-neck sweater, he projects the easy confidence and mischievous charm that made his screen presence so distinctive. The photograph’s warm tones stand out beautifully against the restrained grey background.

Across the top, JEAN-PAUL BELMONDO appears in oversized white capitals, overlapping his hair and giving the composition a strong graphic structure. Beneath the name, the dates 1933–2021 are printed in teal blue—a simple memorial detail that establishes the poster’s commemorative purpose.

The Japanese tagline is arranged in three spacious lines at the lower right:

「映画の神様に愛された男。」
“The man loved by the god of cinema.”

The campaign address appears in mustard-yellow lettering at the lower left, while the retrospective title and distribution credits sit discreetly along the bottom. A copyright credit to The Burglars connects the chosen imagery to one of the films included in the programme.

The scale of the portrait, clear typography and restrained layout give this poster considerable presence. It is an appealing piece for collectors of Jean-Paul Belmondo, French cinema and Japanese retrospective posters, combining a memorable star image with a specific moment of cinematic remembrance.
