“Ultraman Taro” (ウルトラマンタロウ), Original Release Japanese Poster 1973, Speed Size (26 × 75 cm) P114

Sale price $225.00

This is an original Japanese “speed”-size theatrical poster produced in 1973 for Ultraman Taro (ウルトラマンタロウ), Tsuburaya Productions’ iconic Shōwa-era tokusatsu hero introduced in the 1973–74 television series. Issued for Toho (東宝) cinema presentation and promotion, this tall, narrow format was designed for theatre lobbies, corridors, and ticket areas—a quintessential piece of early-’70s Japanese kaijū / tokusatsu ephemera.

Design
Speed posters were printed in a tall, narrow format and far fewer were produced than standard B2 sheets, making genuine survivors especially desirable today. This design is wonderfully bold and graphic: a blazing orange-yellow field is sliced by diagonal pink “beam” streaks, while enormous stacked blue ウルトラマンタロウ typography dominates the left side for maximum long-distance readability. At lower right, Ultraman Taro appears in a commanding full-figure pose, with vertical copy at upper right announcing his arrival as the “sixth Ultra Brother” and boasting of his devastating finishing beam. Finished with the Toho mark and period theatrical print details, it’s a perfect, high-impact example of 1970s Japanese tokusatsu design.
