“RoboCop 2” (ロボコップ2), Original Japanese Home Video Promotional Poster 1991, 60×83.5 cm O272A
This is an original Japanese promotional poster produced for the Japanese home video release campaign of RoboCop 2 (ロボコップ2), the 1990 science-fiction action sequel directed by Irvin Kershner and starring Peter Weller, Nancy Allen, Tom Noonan, Belinda Bauer, and Dan O’Herlihy.
RoboCop 2 continued the dystopian corporate satire and high-impact action of Paul Verhoeven’s original RoboCop (1987), returning to a crime-ridden Detroit controlled by Omni Consumer Products. The sequel is notable for its darker tone, intensified violence, and screenplay involvement from Frank Miller, whose comic-book sensibility helped shape the film’s more aggressive visual and narrative style.
This Japanese poster was issued to promote the simultaneous home video release of the subtitled and Japanese-dubbed editions, with the bold text:
字幕スーパー版 / 日本語吹替え版 / 同時発売
(“Subtitled version / Japanese-dubbed version / released simultaneously”)
The main Japanese copy reads:
たたみかける豪快連続アクションと強烈無比のバイオレンスをひっさげて
あのメタリック・ヒーローが帰ってきた!!
A suitably dramatic period tagline, roughly meaning:
“The metallic hero returns, bringing relentless action and unmatched violence!”
The design presents RoboCop against a metallic silver background, with a target graphic identifying “TARGET ROBOCOP2” and Cain’s robotic form at lower right. The large 1月1日緊急発売!! notice announces the urgent New Year release date, making this a strong example of early-1990s Japanese video-store promotional design.
