This is an original Japanese STB Tatekan poster printed in 1970 for the re-release of Roman Holiday.

This almost 5′ tall poster features striking illustrated artwork of Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. The STB Tatekan format was produced in far smaller numbers than standard B2 posters and intended for display outside cinemas. Because of their size, survival rates are extremely low, making them particularly rare and desirable among collectors—especially for major international titles such as Roman Holiday.

Roman Holiday (1953) is a romantic comedy directed and produced by William Wyler. Audrey Hepburn stars as Princess Ann, who escapes her royal duties for a day of freedom in Rome, where she meets an American reporter played by Gregory Peck. Hepburn’s performance earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress, while the screenplay and costume design also won Oscars.

The script was written by John Dighton and Dalton Trumbo. Due to the Hollywood blacklist, Trumbo did not receive on-screen credit at the time, with Ian McLellan Hunter credited instead. Trumbo’s credit was reinstated in 2003 upon the film’s DVD release, and in 2011, the Academy officially recognized his work. Blacklisted director Bernard Vorhaus also contributed as an uncredited assistant director.

The film was shot at Cinecittà Studios and on location around Rome during the “Hollywood on the Tiber” era. It premiered at the 14th Venice Film Festival and has since been hailed as one of the greatest romantic films of all time. In 1999, Roman Holiday was added to the U.S. National Film Registry as “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
