“Run for Your Wife / Una Moglie Americana” (甘い大陸), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1966, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) T4

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for the 1966 Japanese release of Run for Your Wife, originally titled Una moglie americana and released in Japan as 甘い大陸. Directed by Gian Luigi Polidoro, the film stars Ugo Tognazzi, Marina Vlady, Rhonda Fleming, and Juliet Prowse. It opened in Japan on 26 February 1966, distributed by Nippon Herald Films. 

Film background

Originally produced in 1965, this Italian comedy follows Riccardo, an Italian businessman whose American business trip becomes a pursuit of romance and the comfortable life he imagines an American marriage might provide.

His encounters lead him through a succession of disappointments and misunderstandings, contrasting his expectations with the women and lifestyles he discovers. The film combines travel spectacle with romantic farce and satire, presenting America through the eyes of an increasingly bewildered visitor. Its screenplay credits include Rafael Azcona and Ennio Flaiano, with music by Nino Oliviero. 

Poster design

The Japanese design combines photographic collage, bold colour, and oversized lettering to convey the film’s mixture of travel, glamour, and comedy.

A nighttime city skyline stretches across the top, above a series of female figures in swimwear and leisure clothing. At the upper left, a collage of nightclub imagery and Las Vegas signs, including the Flamingo and Golden Nugget, reinforces the promise of American nightlife.

The centre is dominated by a stylised map of North America in vivid pink and orange, filled with beach photographs and palm trees. Across it, the Japanese title 甘い大陸 appears in enormous lime-green brush-style lettering, creating the poster’s strongest graphic contrast.

A portrait of Ugo Tognazzi anchors the lower left, while the Empire State Building rises at the lower right. The original Italian title, Una moglie americana, appears in grey italic lettering. Together, these elements turn the film’s American journey into a colourful visual itinerary.
