"Sadist / Trafracken (The Coffin)" (狂った白夜), Original Japanese Movie Poster 1968, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) N226

Sale price $100.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1964 for the release of Sadist (Trafracken), also known internationally as The Coffin. Directed by Lars-Magnus Lindgren, this Swedish psychological drama was distributed in Japan by 20th Century Fox.

The film is a stark, provocative exploration of sadomasochism, obsession, and fractured relationships — themes that positioned it alongside the wave of 1960s European cinema pushing censorship boundaries and courting controversy. Under the Japanese release title 「狂った白夜」 (“Mad White Night”), the film was marketed as a shocking, forbidden romance exposing the darker sides of human desire.

The poster design is one of the boldest of its decade. A collage-style composition uses torn-paper effects to reveal a screaming mouth and an ominous watchful eye, juxtaposed against a man and woman locked in a tense embrace. The large calligraphic Japanese title dominates the layout, paired with the English subtitle The Coffin along the bottom. A single blood-red rose at the base underscores the film’s themes of passion and danger.
