This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1993 for the first theatrical release of Sailor Moon R: The Movie.
Sailor Moon R: The Movie (Japanese title: 劇場版 美少女戦士セーラームーンR, Gekijōban Bishōjo Senshi Sērā Mūn R) premiered in Japan on 5 December 1993. Directed by Kunihiko Ikuhara and produced by Toei Animation, it is the franchise’s first feature-length film and bridges the “R” (Romance) arc of Naoko Takeuchi’s beloved magical-girl saga.
Plot overview
A mysterious flower-bearing alien named Fiore—an ethereal childhood friend of Mamoru/Tuxedo Mask—returns to Earth, bearing the parasitic Xenian Flower that feeds on planetary life-force. Ensnared by loneliness and the Xenian’s influence, Fiore seeks to repay Mamoru’s past kindness by offering him Earth itself, energy-drained and gift-wrapped. When Fiore’s asteroid base threatens a global extinction bloom, Usagi/Sailor Moon and the Sailor Guardians launch a desperate space rescue, battling floral daemons, crystallised thorns, and their own fears to prove that love and friendship can outshine even cosmic despair. Packed with gorgeous sakuga sequences, a soaring orchestral score, and the power-ballad “Moon Revenge,” the film remains a fan-favourite jewel of 1990s anime cinema.
