“Scanners” (スキャナーズ), Original Japanese First Release Movie Poster 1981, B3 Size (c. 36 × 51.5 cm) O641
This is an original Japanese B3 poster issued in Japan for the first domestic release of David Cronenberg’s cult SF-horror shocker Scanners (1981)—starring Stephen Lack, Jennifer O’Neill, Michael Ironside, and Patrick McGoohan. The film opened theatrically in Japan on 23 September 1981 (Toei Yōga release).
A key early Cronenberg title—famous for its “head explosion” set-piece and its cold corporate paranoia—Scanners has only grown in stature over the decades, now firmly embedded in the canon of late-70s/early-80s cult cinema.
Poster design
A dynamic, illustrated Japanese campaign design that leans hard into the film’s electric, psychic-violence concept: the central “scanner” figure convulses under a corona of crackling energy, surrounded by action vignettes (laboratory imagery, street chaos, and bodies in panic) that sell the film as high-intensity science fiction horror. The bold, dimensional title スキャナーズ crowns the sheet like a heavy-metal logo—pure early-80s impact.
A major bonus with this format: the reverse is fully printed with Japanese text, images, and layout content (synopsis/cast/features), making it a particularly desirable “as-used” piece of Japanese theatrical marketing ephemera.
