This is an original Japanese B3 poster printed in 1978 for the theatrical feature of Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (科学忍者隊ガッチャマン), released as part of Tatsunoko Production’s 6th anniversary celebrations.
Film background
First broadcast in 1972, Gatchaman quickly became one of the most influential anime series of its time, establishing the blueprint for future team-based superhero and sci-fi anime. Known internationally as Battle of the Planets and later G-Force, the series follows five young heroes — Ken the Eagle, Joe the Condor, Jun the Swan, Jinpei the Swallow, and Ryu the Owl — united to combat the sinister Galactor organization under the mysterious Berg Katse. With its pioneering bird-themed costumes, team dynamics, and ecological themes, Gatchaman remains a landmark in anime history and a touchstone for generations of creators.
Poster design
This striking B3 commemorative poster showcases bold, dynamic artwork: Ken the Eagle stands at the forefront, cape sweeping into the fiery phoenix motif, while the other Science Ninjas are depicted in action poses behind him. A cosmic starfield, planetary backdrop, and streaking comet add grandeur and scale, while the vivid red Japanese title logo anchors the composition. The overall design perfectly reflects Tatsunoko’s 1970s aesthetic—stylish, futuristic, and dramatic.
