"Sherlock Hound: Zoku Meitantei Hōmuzu" (続・名探偵ホームズ), Original Japanese Movie Poster 1986, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) N233

Sale price $120.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1986 for the theatrical release of Zoku Meitantei Hōmuzu (続・名探偵ホームズ, “More of Sherlock Hound”), a feature-length compilation of episodes from the beloved anime series Sherlock Hound, co-directed by Hayao Miyazaki and Kyosuke Mikuriya.

Produced by Tokyo Movie Shinsha (TMS) in collaboration with Italy’s RAI, Sherlock Hound reimagines Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson as anthropomorphic dogs. While faithful to the spirit of Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective stories, the series blends comedy, action, and whimsical invention, a hallmark of Miyazaki’s style. Miyazaki directed six episodes before departing the project in 1982; his episodes became especially renowned for dynamic chase scenes, aerial battles, and richly designed vehicles.

Released theatrically by Toho in 1986, Zoku Meitantei Hōmuzu compiled “The Mrs. Hudson Kidnapping Case” and “The Adventure of the Flying Balloons” into a feature presentation. These episodes remain two of the most celebrated in the series for their high energy, humor, and visual inventiveness.

The poster design is colorful and energetic: Holmes, Watson, Mrs. Hudson, and key villains appear in comedic poses, while trains, planes, and chase sequences dominate the background. The bold red Japanese title 「続・名探偵ホームズ」 stands prominently at the bottom, marking this as a key collectible tied to Miyazaki’s pre-Ghibli theatrical work.
