“Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger” (シンドバッド 虎の目大冒険), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1977, B2 Size (51 x 73cm) ZA520
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger, the 1977 fantasy adventure directed by Sam Wanamaker with visual effects by stop‑motion legend Ray Harryhausen. Starring Patrick Wayne, Taryn Power, Jane Seymour and Patrick Troughton, it is the third and final of Columbia’s Sinbad trilogy.
Film background
When evil sorceress Zenobia curses Prince Kassim, transforming him into a baboon, sailor‑prince Sinbad sets out with Princess Farah to find a way to reverse the spell before Kassim loses his right to the throne. Their voyage—featuring giant hornet attacks, ghouls, ice caverns and the colossal smilodon “Guardian of the Shrine”—showcases some of Harryhausen’s most elaborate creature animation. On release, the film offered audiences one last dose of old‑school stop‑motion spectacle before optical and digital effects took over fantasy cinema.
Poster design
The Japanese B2 is a riot of fantasy imagery. A huge spectral cat’s head glowers from the central sky, its fanged mouth framing lightning that arcs from the hands of Zenobia, cloaked in blue, seated at the composition’s centre. Flanking columns teem with monsters—gryphons, giant wasps, horned beasts—as Sinbad, sword drawn, battles through flames on the left. At the bottom, a giant bird’s taloned foot reaches toward the viewer, while galleys, armies and palace scenes cluster along the horizon. A green badge on the right trumpets 「完全日本語版」 (“complete Japanese‑language version”), and the bold red title 「シンドバッド 虎の目大冒険」 crowns the lower border, with the English subtitle “Sinbad and The Eye of the Tiger” nestled above.
