“Arcadia of My Youth” (わが青春のアルカディア), Original Release Japanese B1 Movie Poster 1982, Rare, B1 Size (72.8 × 103 cm)
This is an original Japanese B1 poster issued in Japan for the theatrical release of Arcadia of My Youth (わが青春のアルカディア, 1982), the landmark space-opera feature from Leiji Matsumoto—one of the defining figures of Japanese sci-fi and anime culture (Space Battleship Yamato, Galaxy Express 999, Captain Harlock). A mythic, romantic epic of freedom, loss, and rebellion, the film is closely associated with Matsumoto’s enduring Captain Harlock universe—an icon of 1970s–80s Japanese pop culture whose influence continues to ripple through manga, anime, and genre design worldwide.
It is extremely hard to find in a B1 size even in Japan!
Poster design
A spectacular, graphic B1 design dominated by Harlock’s instantly recognisable silhouette: the sweeping copper hair, the scarred face half in shadow, and the skull insignia on the cape—set against a deep blood-red field that feels like pure heroic tragedy. Across the top, the English title “MY YOUTH IN ARCADIA” is printed in large type, while the vertical copy at left reads 「’82年夏休み全国ロードショー!」 (“Nationwide roadshow in summer vacation ’82!”), marking it as a true first-run Japanese cinema campaign piece. The bold Japanese title 「わが青春のアルカディア」 slashes down the right, and the smaller text line at far right carries a powerful character statement in classic Matsumoto tone—a vow to keep fighting and live free beneath the black flag. In the large B1 format, the poster has enormous presence—an exceptionally frame-friendly, museum-wall piece for serious anime collectors.
