“Kikaider 01” (キカイダー01), Original Japanese DVD Promotional Poster 2005, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) — T215
This is an original Japanese B2 promotional poster produced in 2005 for Toei’s limited-edition Kikaider 01 DVD box set. Advertising the 21 July release, the poster celebrates the classic live-action superhero series with a vivid montage of its distinctive characters. A separate banner along the bottom promotes the August 2005 release of Mechanical Violator Hakaider on DVD.
Series background
Originally broadcast in 1973–74, Kikaider 01 followed Android Kikaider, continuing the superhero world created by Shotaro Ishinomori. The series stars Shunsuke Ikeda as Ichiro, the trumpet-playing android who transforms into Kikaider 01 to confront sinister mechanical enemies.
Its combination of colourful costumes, exposed circuitry, motorcycle action and elaborate villains makes the series a memorable example of 1970s Japanese tokusatsu. This later promotional poster brings that original television imagery into the DVD era.
Poster design
Kikaider 01 dominates the foreground, extending a blue-gloved hand towards the viewer. His divided red-and-blue costume and transparent armour reveal the intricate mechanical details that define the character’s appearance.
Behind him, Ichiro plays his trumpet, while Hakaider appears on a motorcycle and further characters fill the montage. A saturated orange-red background of circular mechanical patterns and coloured cables gives the composition energy and depth. The large 「キカイダー01」 logo anchors the lower section, alongside the prominent DVD release announcement.
An especially striking display piece for collectors of Ishinomori, Kikaider and classic Japanese superhero television.
