"Star Wars: A New Hope" (スター・ウォーズ), Original Japanese Movie Soundtrack Poster 1982, B1 Size (c. 72 × 103 cm)
This is an original Japanese B1 promotional poster printed in 1982 to advertise the Star Wars (later subtitled A New Hope) original motion picture soundtrack. Issued in far smaller numbers than standard theatrical B2s, these soundtrack B1s were typically displayed in record shops rather than cinemas and are now very hard to find – especially in unrestored condition.
Design
The poster uses the classic Style A artwork: beneath the opening line “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…” Luke Skywalker stands on a rocky outcrop, lightsaber held aloft as a blazing vertical beam of light. Princess Leia, in flowing white gown, poses at his side with blaster drawn, while C‑3PO and R2‑D2 stand to the right. In the background, the looming helmet of Darth Vader fills the star‑field, flanked by the Death Star and sweeping formations of X‑wings and TIE fighters. A clean white border frames the image, with full English credits and the STAR WARS logo along the bottom, giving it the feel of a deluxe album‑art print as much as a movie poster.
Condition
Very Good. Colours are strong with no major fading and the artwork presents beautifully. There is a tear on the border which has been carefully stabilised on the reverse with specialist archival tape; once framed this repair will be minimally visible and the poster will display excellently. Light handling, small edge creases and minor marks consistent with age and shop display. Please review the photos – they show the exact poster for sale, front and back.
