“Star Wars: Return of the Jedi” (スター・ウォーズ/ジェダイの復讐), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1983, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) P186

Sale price $300.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1983 for the first Japanese release of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (スター・ウォーズ/ジェダイの復讐), the third and final chapter of George Lucas’s original Star Wars trilogy. A rare and highly collectible Japanese release poster, it is a true time capsule from one of the most anticipated film events of the 1980s.

Film background
Released in 1983, the film concludes the original trilogy with the Rebel Alliance’s final assault on the Empire—culminating in the battle above Endor and Luke Skywalker’s confrontation with Darth Vader and the Emperor. It’s the closing act of the saga’s mythic arc: redemption, sacrifice, and the collapse of the Imperial machine.

Poster design
One of the most striking and minimalist Japanese Star Wars designs: the iconic lightsaber-in-the-stars key art dominates the sheet—an arm raising a glowing blade into space like a beacon—framed by a clean border against deep black. The top line declares “STAR WARSシリーズ第3弾=完結篇!” (“Star Wars series, Part 3 = the final chapter!”), while the bold Japanese typography スター・ウォーズ and red subtitle ジェダイの復讐 anchor the lower half with huge impact.

Important note on the title (“Revenge” vs “Return”)
This Japanese poster uses the Japanese title ジェダイの復讐, which translates to “Revenge of the Jedi.” While the film’s official English title is Return of the Jedi, the “Revenge” wording is historically significant as it reflects early/alternative title usage in marketing materials during the release period—making this poster especially desirable to collectors who value variant-title Star Wars paper.
