On Sale

This is an original Japanese B1 theatrical poster for Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983), the climactic third film in George Lucas’ original trilogy, directed by Richard Marquand and starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher. The film was a global box‑office phenomenon and cemented Star Wars as the defining space‑fantasy saga of modern cinema.

Design
This is the dynamic Japanese “montage” style one‑sheet. Across the top, bold red text proclaims this as the third and final chapter of the Star Wars series, while a block of Japanese copy beneath sets up the story. The main artwork shows the half‑constructed second Death Star hanging over Endor, a vast Imperial Star Destroyer powering across the frame and TIE fighters knifing through space, with Darth Vader looming to the right. Along the lower half, full‑colour stills highlight key moments: Luke and Leia swinging from Jabba’s sail barge, frenetic space‑battle imagery of the Millennium Falcon and X‑wings, portraits of Ben Kenobi, Yoda, Lando, Chewbacca and others, plus a character block featuring Han Solo, R2‑D2 and C‑3PO above the English RETURN OF THE JEDI logo. The Japanese title 「スター・ウォーズ/ジェダイの復讐」 anchors the design in bold aqua and red. It’s a classic, information‑packed Japanese layout that captures the film’s sense of scale and ensemble adventure.

Rarity
Japanese B1 posters were printed in much smaller quantities than the standard B2 size and were intended for select cinema display only. This montage style appears far less often on the market than many international ROTJ designs, making it a striking and comparatively scarce piece for Star Wars collectors—especially desirable for those looking specifically for original Japanese theatrical material.

Condition
Very Good. Colours are strong with no major fading and the black space background still reads deep. There is a tear at the top border from previous cinema use (see photos) that has been stabilised on the reverse with specialist archival tape; once framed, this will be not very noticeable at all, and the poster will display superbly. Please review all images (front and back); they show the exact poster for sale.

Condition
Very Good / Excellent. Colours remain rich with no noticeable fading and the large black field still has deep tone. Light surface handling and minor edge marks from theatrical use; no fold lines or writing. Please review all images—they show the exact poster for sale, front and back.
