“Star Wars: Return of the Jedi” (スター・ウォーズ/ジェダイの復讐), Ultra‑Rare Original Japanese B1 “Lightsaber” Movie Poster 1983, B1 Size (c. 72 × 103 cm)
This is an original Japanese B1 theatrical poster for Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983), the climactic third film in George Lucas’ original trilogy, directed by Richard Marquand and starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher. The film was a global box‑office phenomenon and cemented Star Wars as the defining space‑fantasy saga of modern cinema.
Design
This is the iconic “lightsaber” design: against a star‑filled void, two hands (Luke Skywalker’s) raise an ignited lightsaber straight upward so that its blade becomes a vertical beam of light, flaring into a starburst at the top. A slim turquoise border frames the image, with the RETURN OF THE JEDI logo in English tucked into the lower right and the Japanese title 「スター・ウォーズ/ジェダイの復讐」 running boldly underneath in aqua and red. The minimalism and symmetry give this piece the feel of a mythic emblem rather than a conventional movie poster.
Rarity
Japanese B1 posters were printed in far smaller numbers than the standard B2 size, and this lightsaber style appears far less frequently on the market, especially in unrestored condition. It’s an outstanding centrepiece for any Star Wars collection.
Condition
Very Good / Excellent. Colours remain rich with no noticeable fading and the large black field still has deep tone. There is a tear at the border (see photos) that has been stabilised on the reverse with specialist archival tape; once framed, this repair will be not very noticeable at all, and the poster will display superbly. Light surface handling and minor edge marks from theatrical use; no fold lines or writing. Please review all images—they show the exact poster for sale, front and back.
