This is an original Japanese silk screen poster printed in the 1967. This poster is ultra rare and is displayed in the world`s most prestigious galleries such as MoMA in New York City. It is very difficult / almost impossible to find in any condition.

Japan Poster Shop has acquired a substantial and unique collection of original Tadanori Yokoo posters from one of the most prolific collectors in Japan. This individual has a very colorful life story, having invested and dedicated many decades to his love for Tadanori Yokoo`s vibrant designs.

The poster for the 9th Apology Event by Jokyo Gekijo (Situation Theater), titled Kara Juro’s John Silver—Shinjuku Longing and Crying in the Night Edition (formerly Sogetsu Hall, May 22–25, 1967), features an apology written in the lower right corner—an intimate message from the designer to the client. Yokoo Tadanori later reflected on the design, noting that it “completely deviated from the function of a poster” because it was only completed on the morning of the performance. The image is framed by a black border, with the center surrounded by life-size hanafuda playing cards, each bordered in black as well. Some cards, like the pair of paulownia flower cards at the top and bottom centers, feature inscriptions that seem to be borrowed from existing logos: “‘Fuku’ trademark, all rights reserved,” “Nintendo,” and “Specially manufactured papier maché.” A white moon rises in the background, casting light on the scene, where a dark gray silhouette of a naked woman can be seen, her head drooping under the weight of a Shimada-style hairstyle. Designed by Yokoo, this B1-format poster was unusually large for a performance by a small theater company at the time. Despite its late submission, it still did not arrive in time for the event itself, adding to the growing collection of similar anecdotes from Yokoo.

“Dear Kara Juro, please forgive me for being late with this design.” —Yokoo Tadanori (1967)
