Sale price $325.00

This is an original Japanese B2 offset poster printed in 2009 for a Tadanori Yokoo exhibition (第51回企画展), with the exhibition dates printed directly into the artwork: 平成21年10月4日(日)– 平成22年3月28日(日) (4 October 2009 – 28 March 2010). The design uses Yokoo’s famous “DROOL / よだれ” imagery—one of his most iconic portrait motifs—making this a highly collectible, time-capsule piece of late-2000s Japanese graphic culture.

Poster design (focus)
This poster centres on Yokoo’s celebrated “DROOL (よだれ)” artwork—pop-surreal, humorous, and unsettling in equal measure:

A confrontational red-haired portrait with oversized glasses and wide, staring eyes fills the sheet, the open mouth revealing sharp teeth—and the signature detail: a thin, graphic strand of drool falling from the lips, a classic Yokoo “shock of the human” motif.

Behind the figure sits a dreamlike coastal panorama: a sweeping shoreline and calm sea offset by a distant volcanic eruption—Yokoo’s trademark symbolic landscape where idyll and danger coexist.

Bold white Japanese typography frames the head like a constructed signboard, while “TADANORI YOKOO” is embedded into the hair—typography and image fused into a single visual system.

The bright yellow garment carries dense vertical exhibition information, turning “event text” into part of the artwork rather than a separate informational block—another Yokoo signature move.

As a whole, the piece reads like an advertisement and a standalone contemporary artwork at once—exactly the boundary Yokoo has always delighted in collapsing.

About Tadanori Yokoo
Tadanori Yokoo is one of Japan’s most influential postwar graphic designers and artists—celebrated worldwide for fusing Pop Art intensity, surreal symbolism, and a uniquely Japanese sense of cultural collage into unforgettable poster design. His work famously blurs the line between fine art and commercial print culture, and original Yokoo exhibition posters remain highly sought after as affordable, displayable works by a major artist.
