"TAKESHI'S", Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 2005, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O276

Sale price $100.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 2005 for Takeshi Kitano’s meta-surreal comedy-drama Takeshis’. The film playfully collapses the boundary between Kitano the celebrity (“Beat Takeshi”) and Kitano the artist, as a TV star meets his look-alike convenience-store clerk and tumbles through dream loops, yakuza skits, and self-parody. A key late-period work, it extends Kitano’s exploration of identity begun in HANA-BI and Dolls, and remains a cult favorite for its audacity and in-jokes.

Film background
Written, directed, and edited by Kitano, the film co-stars Kotomi Kyōno, Ren Ōsugi, Susumu Terajima, and many long-time collaborators. The structure—recursive sketches that refract the public persona “Beat Takeshi”—positions the movie as both satire and self-portrait, influential in discussions of stardom and authorship in Japanese cinema.

Poster design
A striking concept piece: hundreds of thumbnail stills from Kitano’s roles and alter egos tile into a mosaic portrait of his face floating in black—an elegant visualization of multiplicity. The vertical copy at right reads, 「“たけし”が“たけし”を演じる。」—“Takeshi plays Takeshi.” The bold serif logotype TAKESHI’S anchors the bottom above the release date band, with a full Toho-style billing block and Office Kitano credits along the foot.
