This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the 1985 Japanese release of Terror in the Aisles / 「ホラー・ワールド」, Richard Schickel’s feature-length celebration of horror, suspense, science fiction, and monster cinema.
Hosted by Donald Pleasence and Nancy Allen, the film assembles memorable sequences from more than 70 productions, ranging from the great Universal monster films to landmark thrillers and contemporary slasher cinema.

Presented from within a crowded cinema, Terror in the Aisles examines the images, characters, and filmmaking techniques used to frighten audiences across several generations.
The documentary moves rapidly between scenes of monsters, murderers, supernatural threats, alien creatures, and ordinary people trapped in extraordinary danger. Pleasence and Allen introduce thematic montages devoted to suspense, isolation, psychological terror, and sudden violence.

Rather than presenting a chronological history, the film functions as an intense cinematic montage designed to recreate the visceral experience of watching horror in a theatre.
Poster design
This spectacular Japanese poster compresses decades of horror imagery into a dense, vividly coloured composition.
At the centre, an arched orange-and-yellow panel is dominated by Elsa Lanchester as the Bride of Frankenstein and Boris Karloff as Frankenstein’s Monster. Their monumental profiles establish the classic Universal tradition at the heart of the genre.
In front of them appear several additional figures drawn from Gothic and psychological horror, including Dracula, a frightened victim, and the unmistakable silhouette of a raised knife.
The surrounding semicircular montage contains scenes and creatures from numerous films, including:
- the Metaluna Mutant from This Island Earth
- the enormous shark from Jaws
- classic Dracula and Frankenstein imagery
- science-fiction monsters
- terrified victims and violent confrontations
- pursuit and vehicular sequences from later horror cinema
The extensive film lists across the upper-left and upper-right corners identify many of the titles represented in the documentary.
The green central tagline reads:

Translated:
“From Hollywood, especially for you—an invitation to a feast of terror swirling with blood and screams!”
The enormous English title:
“HORROR WORLD”
is rendered in cracked, stone-like grey lettering across the lower centre, giving it the appearance of a monumental horror-film logo.
Directly beneath, the Japanese title appears in a bright red panel:

Two columns of Japanese names list the celebrated performers featured throughout the compilation, while the lower credits identify Richard Schickel, Frank Saccardi, Universal, and Japanese distributor Toho-Towa.
The result is an exceptionally rich example of 1980s Japanese horror-poster design, combining classic monsters, modern thrillers, cult imagery, and sensational typography within a single theatrical collage.
Condition
Excellent condition. A highly attractive example retaining strong orange, yellow, red, blue, and black tones, clear photographic detail, crisp typography, and excellent overall display impact.
There are only light signs of age and handling consistent with an original Japanese theatrical poster from this period.
