“Help!” (ヘルプ!/4人はアイドル), Original Japanese B2 Movie Poster 1965, B2 Size (c. 51 × 73 cm) O257 A

Sale price $450.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the 1965 release of Help!, The Beatles’ second feature film directed by Richard Lester. Mixing musical numbers with absurd spy‑capers, the film finds the band pursued around the world after Ringo becomes the unwitting wearer of a sacrificial ring coveted by a fanatical cult.

Film background
Help! takes the fast‑paced style of A Hard Day’s Night and blows it out into a full‑colour, globe‑trotting romp. From London to the Austrian Alps and the Bahamas, John, Paul, George and Ringo stumble through booby‑traps, secret bases and outlandish villains while performing songs like “Help!,” “Ticket to Ride,” “You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away” and “Another Girl.” Its mix of slapstick, pop art and music heavily influenced later music videos and comedy.

Poster design
This Japanese B2 uses a striking triptych layout. At the top, the band skis across snowy slopes and confronts the many‑armed cult statue, framed by close‑ups of Paul and George. The centre is dominated by the enormous pink and red “HELP!” logo stretching across the width of the sheet, with small English text and Japanese titling integrated into the letters. The lower band features Ringo and John’s faces in large, expressive close‑up, while a tiny running Beatles quartet dashes through the snow along the bottom edge. The result is a dynamic design that balances character portraits with bold typography.
