However, he attributes his artistic inspiration to filmmaker Akira Kurosawa and writer Yukio Mishima.

By the late 60s, Yokoo had already gained international acclaim for his work, featuring in the 1968 "Word & Image" exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Subsequently, MoMA hosted a solo exhibition of his graphic art four years later. In a surprising turn, he retired from commercial endeavors in 1981 to focus on painting, a facet of his artistic career that continues to flourish with frequent exhibitions.
Today, Tadanori Yokoo remains an influential figure in both fine art and graphic design, showcasing his distinctive creativity and prolific output across various mediums.
