“Sssssss (aka Sssssnake)” (怪奇!吸血人間 スネーク), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1976, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O79
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1975 for the first Japanese theatrical release of Sssssss (怪奇!吸血人間 スネーク). Japanese 1970s creature-feature posters are highly collectible, especially sheets with sensational hand-painted monster art issued by CIC/Universal.
Film background
First released in the U.S. in 1973, Sssssss follows a maverick herpetologist whose experimental serum slowly transforms his assistant into a human-snake hybrid while a trail of bodies mounts. Directed by Bernard L. Kowalski and starring Strother Martin, Dirk Benedict, and Heather Menzies, the film rode the decade’s eco-horror wave. Japanese marketing emphasized the connection to producers Richard D. Zanuck and David Brown—billed domestically as the team behind Jaws—to position the picture for audiences hungry for creature terror.
Poster design
The Japanese B2 is dominated by a colossal painted cobra with hood fully flared, fangs bared, and tongue flicking, set against an inky black field. A shocked heroine photo anchors the lower register above a torn-paper orange band carrying the explosive red brush title 「怪奇!吸血人間」 and bold katakana 「スネーク」. The Roman campaign tag “SSSSNAKE” appears at right, with CIC/Universal credits along the footer—a classic mid-’70s import-horror layout that delivers pure shock value at a glance.
