Sale price $110.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the 1977 Japanese release of The Eagle Has Landed / 「鷲は舞いおりた」, the classic Second World War espionage thriller directed by John Sturges and starring Michael Caine, Donald Sutherland, and Robert Duvall.

Based on the best-selling novel by Jack Higgins, the film is one of the major international war thrillers of the 1970s, combining covert operations, alternate-history suspense, and a superb ensemble cast.

Film background
Originally released in 1976, The Eagle Has Landed follows a daring German operation during the final stages of the Second World War. A group of paratroopers, led by Colonel Kurt Steiner, infiltrates an English village disguised as Polish soldiers, with the extraordinary mission of kidnapping Winston Churchill.

Directed by John Sturges, whose career included classics such as The Great Escape and The Magnificent Seven, the film became one of his final major theatrical works. The screenplay was written by Tom Mankiewicz, with a cast led by Michael Caine, Donald Sutherland, and Robert Duvall.

Poster design
The Japanese poster uses a bold, severe, and highly graphic design dominated by a saturated red background. At the centre is a large black wartime emblem, overlaid with painted portraits of the three principal leads: Michael Caine in Luftwaffe uniform, Donald Sutherland, and Robert Duvall with eyepatch.

Above them, a silver eagle and descending paratroopers appear against the red field, while the lower section contains a horizontal battle montage showing soldiers in white uniforms and wartime action scenes. The design is direct, dramatic, and unmistakably rooted in 1970s Japanese war-film advertising.

The vertical yellow Japanese copy at upper right reads:

「朝霧に光るドーバーを越えろ!ラストチャンス《逆転》が待っている!」
“Cross the Dover gleaming in the morning mist! A final chance for reversal awaits!”

The lower section is anchored by the Japanese title 「鷲は舞いおりた」, rendered in large distressed grey lettering, with the English title THE EAGLE HAS LANDED and Union Jack motif printed along the bottom margin.
