“Neon Genesis Evangelion: Genesis 0:10”, Original Japanese Home Video Promotional Poster 1996, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) G44

Sale price $120.00

This is an original Japanese B2 promotional poster issued in 1996 for the home video release of Neon Genesis Evangelion: Genesis 0:10, produced for the Japanese VHS / LaserDisc campaign by King Records / Starchild. It is not a standard theatrical poster, but an authentic country-of-origin shop-display piece from Evangelion’s original release era.

Series background

By 1996, Neon Genesis Evangelion had already established itself as one of the most important and influential anime series of its generation. Genesis 0:10 corresponds to one of the most decisive turning points in the television series, containing:

Episode 19: INTROJECTION
Japanese subtitle: 男の戰い / A Man’s Battle

Episode 20: WEAVING A STORY: oral stage
Japanese subtitle: 心のかたち 人のかたち / Form of the Mind, Form of the Man

For Evangelion collectors, this volume is especially significant because it centres on the terrifying and unforgettable awakening of Eva Unit-01 during the battle with Zeruel, one of the defining moments of the original series.

Poster design

This is a superb and highly graphic design. The poster is dominated by the large vertical kanji 覚醒 — meaning “Awakening” — which immediately announces the central theme of the volume. Against a stark black field, a framed image of Eva Unit-01 in its berserk / awakened state appears in the lower right, rendered in vivid purple, acid green, and blue. The layout is minimal but extremely effective, relying on bold typography, negative space, and a single iconic image rather than a crowded montage.

The result is a poster with tremendous wall presence. It feels severe, dramatic, and unmistakably Evangelion. Among the home-video campaign designs, it is one of the strongest because it distils the emotional and visual violence of this crucial section of the series into a clean, commanding composition.
