This is an original Japanese B2 movie poster printed in 1966 for the first theatrical release of The Face of Another (他人の顔), a Japan psychological science-fiction drama directed by Hiroshi Teshigahara, starring Tatsuya Nakadai and Machiko Kyō, with Miki Irie.

Film background
Released in 1966, The Face of Another is a landmark of Japanese modernist cinema—an unsettling exploration of identity, alienation, and desire. After a man is disfigured, he is given a lifelike prosthetic mask that allows him to “become” someone else, triggering a spiral of moral and psychological collapse. Adapted from Kōbō Abe’s novel (with Abe also writing the screenplay), the film sits alongside Woman in the Dunes as one of Teshigahara’s most celebrated works.

Poster design
A concept-driven Japanese B2 dominated by texture and gaze: a burlap-like “mask” surface fills the sheet, with two piercing eyes staring out—tactile, claustrophobic, and instantly symbolic. Across the top, the huge brush-calligraphy title 「他人の顔」 reads like an accusation, while the lower portion presents two faces split by shadow—suggesting doubling, fracture, and the instability of self. Musical staff lines border the design, adding an elegant, composed frame to an image that feels psychologically raw.
