“The Fly” (ザ・フライ), Original Japanese Movie Poster 1986, 20th Century Fox First Release, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O158
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1986 for the first domestic theatrical release of The Fly (ザ・フライ), directed by David Cronenberg and released in Japan by 20th Century Fox. First-issue Japanese posters for Cronenberg’s body-horror milestone—starring Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis—are highly collectible.
Film background
Brilliant scientist Seth Brundle’s teleportation experiment goes awry when a housefly enters the pod, splicing man and insect at the genetic level. What begins as a thrilling metamorphosis descends into a tragic, grotesque unravelling—an Oscar-winning showcase for creature makeup and one of the defining horror films of the 1980s.
Poster design
An iconic country sheet: the hulking telepod opens in a blaze of white light as a human arm flails outward, a slick insect tail coiling to the floor—pure transformation in a single image. Above, the monumental emerald-outlined masthead THE FLY glows against black, with a tiny fly and the sly caption “help me, please help me” nodding to the 1958 original. Green credit block and Fox marks along the footer are classic hallmarks of a first-release sheet with superb wall presence.
