"The Gauntlet" (ガントレット), Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1978, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O345
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1978 for Clint Eastwood’s action thriller The Gauntlet (co-starring Sondra Locke, screenplay by Michael Butler & Dennis Shryack). Released in Japan by Warner Bros., the film follows a hard-bitten Phoenix cop racing a key witness through a wall of gunfire to the courthouse.
Design
A ferocious illustrated layout attributed to Frank Frazetta: Eastwood, pistol raised, shields Locke beside a bullet-riddled bus, flames and smoke boiling behind them. The hulking brushwork, gouged metal textures, and explosive orange sky drive home the film’s “unstoppable run” concept. The bold red katakana title 「ガントレット」 cuts across the top, with bilingual billing and credit blocks completing a classic late-’70s Warner action aesthetic.
