"The Getaway" (ゲッタウェイ), Original Japanese B2 Movie Poster 1972, B2 Size (51 × 73cm) ZA630
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1972 for the first Japanese release of The Getaway, Sam Peckinpah’s stylish action thriller starring Steve McQueen and Ali MacGraw. Adapted from Jim Thompson’s novel, the film follows ex‑con Doc McCoy and his wife as a bank robbery in Texas spirals into betrayal and a desperate flight to Mexico. It became one of Peckinpah’s biggest commercial successes and a key entry in McQueen’s filmography.
Design
The composition is dominated by a tense close‑up of McQueen in a dark suit, firing a handgun toward the viewer against a blurred, smoky background, capturing the film’s raw, kinetic energy. Above, a strip of stills shows MacGraw screaming, masked gunmen, and images of robbery and pursuit. The bold red Japanese title ゲッタウェイ slashes diagonally across the upper half like a streak of gunfire, with the English logo THE GETAWAY appearing in a small inset still beside Doc walking away from an exploding car. Yellow Japanese copy emphasises the film’s Magnum‑blasting violence and high‑stakes action.
